Principles of Lean Manufacturing
A live simulation that will guide you through the transition from a traditional to a lean manufacturing environment eliminating waste and increasing productivity, thus enabling you to gain a competitive edge in the marketplace.
Principles of Lean Manufacturing is part of an integrated suite of New Mexico MEP tools and services developed specifically for small manufacturers. This course is one in a series of related lean courses New Mexico MEP offers. At this workshop you’ll learn the principles of lean manufacturing and how to apply them. During the simulation exercises—as a member of the production team for Buzz Electronics—you’ll apply lean concepts such as standardized work, visual signals, batch-size reduction, pull systems and more. Experience firsthand how lean improves quality, reduces cycle time, improves delivery performance, reduces WIP and enables Buzz to show a profit. Required for all other Lean courses. One day event.
Transformation Management
In this course, you will explore the concepts, techniques, and methods for transforming an organization using the New Mexico MEP Business Approach and its accompanying toolkit. This course is a Best Of the former PBA Parts I and II courses!
Principles of the Lean Office
Lean office is part of an integrated suite of New Mexico MEP tools and services developed specifically for small manufacturers. It is one in a series of related lean courses New Mexico MEP offers.
This full-day workshop involves a mix of classroom-style learning with an interactive live simulation where class participants take on the roles of managers and workers within a company. Workshop participants will learn lean definitions and techniques; explore the application of lean techniques in a simulated office.
Participants will ultimately transform the simulated office in three “stages” or “days” by implementing proven lean techniques at the end of each “stage” or “day.” At the end of the workshop, the participants will have redesigned a leaner office that improves customer and employee satisfaction and speeds the order-to-cash cycle.
The 5S System
The 5S System is part of an integrated suite of New Mexico MEP tools and services developed specifically for small manufacturers. This course is one in a series of related lean courses New Mexico MEP offers.
This workshop offers you an opportunity to experience first hand how the 5S System reduces waste in the mounting plate assembly area of a simulated production facility. Participants learn the concepts of the 5S System and then apply them to transform a cluttered, disorganized area into a clean, organized and orderly workplace.
The course offers an opportunity to experience first hand how the 5S system reduces waste and improves productivity and quality in a simulated production facility. Participants will learn to describe the difference in workplace appearance and functionality before and after the 5S process has been applied.
Participants perform an in-depth audit of workplace organization and standardization; organize a workplace by applying the concepts of sort, set-in order and shine; standardize procedures to maintain and control an organized workplace using visual controls; and describe how 5S can help to improve workplace environmental health and safety.
Quick Changeover/Set Up Reduction
Setup Reduction is part of an integrated suite of New Mexico MEP tools and services developed specifically for small manufacturers. This course is one in a series of related lean courses New Mexico MEP offers.
Use this workshop to learn the principles of Setup Reduction and the Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED) system. Then apply the four-step Changeover Improvement Process to achieve setup reduction in a life-like simulation exercise. By the end of the day you’ll experience reduced costs and setup times and see machine capacity increase at the same time.
Lean Performance Measures
Lean Performance Measures is part of an integrated suite of New Mexico MEP tools and services developed specifically for small manufacturers. This course is one in a series of related lean courses New Mexico MEP offers.
During this course you will learn why traditional performance measures conflict with lean. You will be taught a “Starter Set” of performance measures at the plant, value stream and cell levels and you will practice using the starter se measures to identify opportunities for lean improvement initiatives. You will learn how to adapt the starter set measures to fit your company’s unique strategies, goals, objectives and critical success factors.
Using these tools you will be prepared to create focused performance measures to deploy all of your New Mexico MEP initiatives, even those that go beyond lean.

Training Essentials
Training Essentials is the recommended course for all trainers within the New Mexico MEP system. It sets the standard expected of all trainers within the system.
The course will create a common foundation of understanding for trainers regarding how to create a learning environment. It provides an introduction to training and facilitation. And covers icebreakers, motivation for training and insights into how and why adults learn.
Participants will learn through examples and practice. The course covers the four basic learning styles and how to connect with the different styles. Other topics include: building credibility with the class, the effective use of language and visuals and how to evaluate how well learners are absorbing the materials covered.
Coaching for Transformation
In Coaching for Transformation (TM 212), you will learn to use a “coach approach” in regular interactions with clients.
Participants will recognize “coachable moments,” use a five-step methodology to help CEO clients discover truths and take actions, and practice several core skills and advanced techniques to help clients improve their performance.
This course introduces the participant to transformation and provides practice in coaching CEOs and in keeping coaching conversations “strategic." Because transformation is “bigger” than continuous improvement, a CEO's blind spots might impede forward movement.
Because transformation also entails a fairly sizeable change effort, this course introduces some of the deeper change concepts also important in a coaching session. Coaching for Transformation emphasizes why transforming a manufacturer requires CEO/executive coaching.
